Getting older is part of life, but you don’t have to feel discouraged by what you see in the mirror. If you look older, tired, or less like the you who you remember, it’s time to do something about it.

Having lines and wrinkles on your face is a perfect opportunity to consider a minimally invasive option to reduce their appearance, like fillers. Fillers are a versatile cosmetic treatment that can smooth out wrinkles and add volume to parts of the face that can appear gaunt due to the effects of aging.

We offer several different fillers at Reflections at St. Luke’s, but how do you know which is best for you and your unique needs? Keep reading to learn more about fillers and find out which ones may be best for you to help you feel more confident again!

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are made from a synthetic, biodegradable material that an experienced fellowship-trained plastic surgeon like Dr. Nicolas Villanustre can safely inject under your skin. When injected, dermal fillers can smooth out deep set lines, creases, and wrinkles, particularly on the face.

They can also add volume to different areas of the face, particularly the cheeks and lips. No surgery is required to have fillers, making them a minimally invasive treatment, and their effects are temporary.

Your body will eventually process the filler, usually six months and a year after your first application. However, you can safely undergo repeat injections to maintain your appearance and the effects of fillers.

You’ll have dermal fillers administered in-office at Reflections at St. Luke’s by Dr. Villanustre or another staff member. The filler is administered using a thin needle, which injects it under the skin.

There is no downtime after having fillers, meaning you won’t have to worry about healing or recovery. Because of this, fillers are far less invasive than other cosmetic procedures, which typically require surgery and recovery time.

If you’ve never had a cosmetic treatment before and want to enhance and rejuvenate your appearance, dermal fillers are an excellent place to start, as they require minimal maintenance and commitment from patients.

Filler Options Offered at Reflections at St. Luke’s

Reflections at St. Luke’s offers some of the premier dermal filler treatments. When choosing a filler, talk to your specialist at Reflections at St. Luke’s to determine which one is best for the area you want to treat. You may wish to use several different kinds of fillers, especially if you’re treating different regions. We offer the following:

JÚVEDERM Ultra Plus

JÚVEDERM Ultra Plus is used primarily to smooth out wrinkles around the mouth and nose. It’s a gentle gel filler infused with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that makes injection more comfortable.

If you’re uncomfortable with the sight of laugh lines around your mouth, you may want to consider a filler like JÚVEDERM Ultra Plus to reduce their appearance.

VEDERM Voluma XC

JÚVEDERM Voluma XC is a filler from a formula similar to the JÚVEDERM Ultra Plus. It’s best used to add volume to the cheeks while smoothing their overall appearance—many patients like JÚVEDERM Voluma XC to contour their faces by adding volume and lifting their skin.

Volbella XC

VOLBELLA XC is a filler that adds fullness to the lips while smoothing out wrinkles around the mouth. It’s the best option for subtle lip enhancement that looks natural without seeming drastic.

JÚVEDERM Vollure XC

JÚVEDERM Vollure XC is a filler with a unique formula that can treat especially pronounced facial wrinkles and folds, especially “parentheses” lines around the nose and mouth. It contains lidocaine and can last up to 18 months, up to a year longer than other fillers.

What is the Difference Between Fillers and Botox?

Fillers and Botox are often confused. Both fillers and Botox are injectable, biodegradable treatments, but Botox is distinct as it doesn’t add any volume to the face.

Botox comes from a toxin called botulinum, which helps temporarily paralyze muscles it is injected into, primarily in the face, to treat fine lines and wrinkles. The formula used for Botox specifically doesn’t paralyze the body, but it does relax the muscles it’s injected into.

Botox also has several medical uses, including treatment for neck spasms, overactive bladder, and some other conditions caused by muscle issues. But when used for cosmetic purposes, Botox can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

These are the wrinkles on your face caused by repeated muscle movements, like frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and lines on the neck. Botox is injected into the muscles that create the movements that form these lines, relaxing them and temporarily improving the appearance of these lines and wrinkles.

Botox lasts three to four months, slightly less than most dermal fillers. But, like fillers, you can have regular injections to maintain your appearance.

The more regularly you have Botox injections, the longer you can maintain their results between treatments.

Choosing the Right Treatment For You

In addition to the fillers offered at Reflections at St. Luke’s, we also offer Botox injections. Botox may be better suited to enhance your appearance if your primary concern is lines and wrinkles, like forehead creases, frown lines, or crow’s feet.

But fillers are the best choice if you have wrinkles around the nose and mouth that you want to smooth out or add volume to your face. Since each filler treats different areas and concerns, choosing one is as simple as figuring out which part of your face you want to enhance the most.

But if you aren’t sure what part of your face you want to treat or what kind of filler is best, have no fear. Each of our patients can consult with one of our specialists, who will recommend the best treatment for your appearance goals.
